If spent any amount of time reading Bill Watterson’s seminal comic strip, Calvin & Hobbes, then you’re probably familiar with Calvin’s obsessive reading of the fictional book, Hamster Huey and the Gooey Kablooie. The details of the story are obscure at best, and perhaps even unknown to the strip’s creator, but what we do know is that Calvin’s father was sick of reading the same story every night (a fact any parent can relate to).
In his unending commitment to ruin your entire childhood, Michael Bay’s production company, Platinum Dunes, has somehow purchased the movie rights from the elusive Mr. Watterson, who has been adamant about maintaining sole control of his property until this bizarre development. And while Mr. Watterson could not be reached for comment, Bay was more than willing to share details about the project (although decidedly mum on the details of the acquisition of the rights).
“We’re definitely going to explore the character of Huey,” Bay explains. “Who is he? Where did he come from? We want to delve into what brought him to fight against the Gooey Kablooie.
“I think the fans are going to be excited,” Bay continues. “We’ve got some great designs in terms of Huey and the Gooey Kablooie , and it’s shaping up to be just an incredible script.”
While the movie remains slated for a June 2017 releas, and no director has been announced, Bay has already cast Megan Fox as Huey’s love interest.
