Christmas Song Challenge Day 18

Day 18:  Your favorite version of Silent Night

Silent Night is one of those classic Christmas carols that is synonymous with Christmas.  It originates from a German carol, Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht, composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber in Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria.  That’s quite a mouthful.  In 1859 the first English translation was published and it’s popularity stateside started to grow.  It has now been published in 140 languages and is the 3rd Best Selling Single of All Time.  That’s worldwide, mind you.  WORLD.  WIDE.

Josh:  Frank Sinatra

Ol’ Blue Eyes croons like no other.  Several of his versions grace my Christmas playlist, including a holiday favorite Mistletoe and Holly, which I would rather write about, but hey, today is about Silent Night, so that’s what you get instead.
